Clayton Evans was born in Americus, Georgia on August 1, 1929 to Annie Mae Reynolds and Webster Evans. Better known as Pete, he was the first born of nine children, Curley, Helen, Betty, Evelyn, Carolyn, Joe, Mark and Cleveland.
In August of 1947, Pete met Velma at the annual Bud Billiken Parade and two months later the two united in holy matrimony on October 18, 1947. To this union six children were born, Elaine, Lillian, Edwin, Wardell, Wilbert and Vanessa.
Pete worked in construction for many years and retired in 1992 from the Chicago Housing Authority.
On November 1st, 2015, Clayton Evans fell asleep in death. He was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Mark, Joe, Cleveland, and Helen; and three children, Wardell Carter, Wilbert Carter and Vanessa Carter.
Clayton will be dearly missed by all especially, his wife of 68 years, Velma; three children, Elaine Bowman, Lillian Pounds and Edwin Evans (Matilda); four siblings, Curley, Betty, Evelyn and Carolyn; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
