John Henry and Robertha Griffin were so elated to be blessed with a daughter after
having several sons. On August 30, 1958 Elaine was born. Her mother often shared
stories about how she couldn’t believe that she and her husband were finally given
a “little girl”.
Elaine was a gifted student and excelled throughout her academic career. She was
an honor roll student while enrolled at Von Stuben High School. She also attended
Sawyer Secretarial School in Oak Park, IL.
Elaine was known as a very quiet young lady, but was very insightful and had an
amazing wit. She was very observant and good judge of character. She was very
straight-forward and loved to laugh and spend time with those she knew and loved.
In an effort to assist with the responsibilities of the family, Elaine stepped in to aid
her mother with caring for the family and was known for “keeping order” in the
household while her mother worked.
Elaine was fortunate to have the privilege of meeting famous celebrities on a daily
basis while being employed at the Drake Hotel. She enjoyed sharing her
experiences with famous guests who were visiting the hotel. Elaine also was
employed at Rapid Displays for many years where she worked with her long-time
partner Steven Minor.
Elaine was admired and loved by so many and her presence will truly be missed.
She was proceeded in death by her son Donnie, father John Henry and 2 brothers
Raymond and Darnell.
