It was a bright sunny day in Palmetto Florida (Manatee County), on November 14th 1949 to be exact, that Alex and Ossie Lee Dunlap welcomed a beautiful chocolate bouncing baby girl made her grand entrance into the world. Being one of six siblings to this union, after much thought & consideration, they made the executive decision to name their unique bundle of joy, Merrissere Dunlap.
“When I was a child…”
II Corinthians 13:11
Throughout her early years, Merrissere was a good student who understood the importance of an education. Even though she was serious when it was needed, and could be bossy at times, she loved joking around with everyone, and didn’t cause any trouble. After four years of studying diligently, Merrissere graduated from Lincoln Memorial High School of Palmetto, Florida in 1968.
“A time to love…”
Ecclesiastes 3:4
Merrissere fell in love, married a military man and was able to travel the world and explore before settling in Colorado Springs where she lived for more than 40 years, 34 of which was spent working in civil service on base at Fort Carson. When she wasn’t working, she unselfishly gave much of her time in service to her community while holding multiple positions in various Masonic organizations.
To name a few; she was a Past Matron with Magnolia Chapter #14 Order of the Eastern Star; Past Commandress at Kadesia Court #162 Daughters of the Imperial Court (an auxiliary of the AEOANMS, INC); Past Loyal Lady Ruler of Doves of Pikes Peak Assembly #52 Order of the Golden Circle; Royal Matron of Mary Jane Neal Court #8 Ladies of the Circle of Perfection; and Princess of Nubian Onyx Guild UD Heroines of the Templar Crusades.
Now in the spare time on any given day, you could find her doing one of the things she cherished most, that is utilizing her gift in creativity and transform simple fabrics into warm and cozy garments that were enjoyed by various loved ones. But when she wasn’t focused on creating another masterpiece, you would most definitely find Merrissere spending quality time at family gatherings and accompanying her grandchildren to various school sporting and community events.
“I’m now ready to be offered…”
